The first expansion to West Edmonton Mall brought with it the mall's first major attraction.
On September 1, 1983, Fantasyland opened its doors and became the world's largest indoor amusement park. Patrons of the mall were now treated to a fantasy world of rides, carnival games, and thrills not before seen in the city, let alone in a shopping mall.
Though the theme has since changed from that of a world of Fantasy to an outer space experience, it's original opening featured decor of palm trees and other features to mimic the theme of an old time midway.
