The Howler is an advanced water slide at the World Waterpark.
Consisting of both exposed and enclosed portions, the slide offers an exhilarating ride consisting of sharp drops and sudden turns, and ends with a steep drop into a splashdown pool.
The Howler originally opened as a pair of slides, similar to many other slides in the park. However, its left chute was closed after decades of operation. This left chute contained a turn which was too extreme, and occasionally resulted in sliders being flipped from their backs onto their stomachs, which had the potential for injury. This left chute was eventually transformed into Slideboarding.
As with some other slides, parents are allowed to catch children at the bottom of the slide.

I’m curious about exactly which part of the second Howler slide was the problem. The most logical candidate was the last turn into the final drop, where the upper slide had to come level with the lower one. For some reason the designers decided to have the slides be one on top of the other. Judging from the pictures of Geronimo’s Jump where this slide is visible, there was a long straight section before the final turn.
Another aspect I think is worth mentioning is that WEM decided to install some kind of “waterfall” apparatus at the entrance to the tunnel on the second slide after it opened. I’d like to know why this was done.
