The Thunderbolt, formerly named White Lightning, was a slide in West Edmonton Mall’s World Waterpark.
The slide opened along with the rest of the park in 1986 as White Lightning. Throughout its life it received several paint job updates, a name change, and some updates to the pool (a barrier was added to prevent collisions between sliders).
Sliders would slide down one of two straight slides on a thin raft-type sled, gaining speed. At the end of the slide, sliders would leave the slide and skim along the splashdown pool before coming to a stop… either by simply losing speed, or by losing left/right balance and experiencing a wipeout into the water.
The slide was removed in 2014 to make wave for the surfing simulator, the Tsunami Flowrider.
